Confirm service allows mailers to uniquely identify and track mail by placing
an additional barcode, known as a PLANET Code, on the front of letter and
flat mailpieces. As mailpieces with PLANET Codes are processed on Postal
Service mail processing equipment, records are created containing the
PLANET Code, POSTNET barcode, processing facility, sort operation code,
and processing date and time. These records are distributed electronically
and give an indication of when mail is nearing delivery or when reply mail is
in the mailstream.
